Nicki Minaj vs Megan Thee Stallion: The Rap Beef Behind “Big Foot” and “Hiss”

Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion are one of the two biggest names in rap, but they appear not to be on good terms.

Their feud has escalated with the release of their respective diss tracks “Big Foot” and “Hiss“, which contain personal attacks and accusations. What is the backstory behind their rap beef?

The feud between the two dates back to 2020, when Megan collaborated on the hit song “WAP” with Cardi B. The song was a huge success, but it also sparked rumors of tension between the three rappers. Some speculated that Nicki Minaj was jealous of Megan Thee Stallion’s rising popularity and friendship with Cardi B, who had a long-standing rivalry with Nicki.

The rumors later intensified when Megan was shot in the foot by Tory Lanez, a rapper who had previously worked with Nicki Minaj. Nicki did not publicly comment on the incident, while Cardi B showed support for Megan.

The feud reached a new level on January 26th, 2024, when Megan released her latest single “Hiss” which is a fierce track that criticizes her haters and addresses artists who have spoken about her in the media.

One line in particular caught the attention of many listeners:

“These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law. I don’t really know what the problem is, but I guarantee y’all don’t want me to start.”

Many interpreted the line about Megan’s Law, which requires sex offenders to be put in registries that are publicly accessible, as a reference to Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty. Petty pleaded guilty to the attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl in 1995 and failed to register as a sex offender when he moved from New York to California in 2022. He was given 3 years of probation and one year of house arrest as a result.

Nicki Minaj did not take the diss lightly. She responded with her own track, “Big Foot”, a few days after. The song is a direct attack on Thee Stallion, in which Nicki accuses her of lying about getting shot, alludes to her late mother, and insults her rap flow.

She also claims that the ‘body’ rapper slept with her ghostwriter, Pardison Fontaine, who is also her ex-boyfriend. Nicki Minaj raps:

“Bad bitch, she like six foot, I call her Big Foot/The bitch fell off, I said, ‘Get up on your good foot.'”

The song ends with a minute-long spoken word section, in which Nicki Minaj warns that she has “a lot of tea” and a “second installment” still to come. She also says that she has “five extra songs” that she is ready to release.

The rap beef between Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion is not likely to end anytime soon. Both rappers have loyal fan bases that support them and defend them on social media. They also have successful careers and projects that keep them in the spotlight. Whether they will ever reconcile or continue to diss each other remains to be seen.
