Jon Stewart, who left The Daily Show in 2015 after 16 years of hosting, will be returning as one of its host and executive producer on February 12th.
The announcement was made by Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios on Wednesday, and it comes after a yearlong search for a replacement for Trevor Noah, who stepped down as the host in December 2022.
Stewart, 61, has been mostly absent from the public eye since he left The Daily Show, except for some occasional appearances and projects.
In 2021, he launched his first TV series since The Daily Show, The Problem with Jon Stewart, on Apple TV+, but the show was canceled in 2023 due to creative differences and low ratings. Stewart also directed two movies, Rosewater in 2014 and Irresistible in 2020, but they received mixed reviews and modest box office results.
Additionally, he helped to launch the careers of many famous comedians, such as Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Samantha Bee, Steve Carell, and Hasan Minhaj, who went on to host their own shows.
His comeback coincides with the 2024 presidential election season, and long-time viewers are already anticipating his sharp humor and commentary on current affairs.
The episodes with Stewart will be available on Paramount+ the day after they air on Comedy Central.
