Miley Cyrus Wins her First Grammy and Shares the Stage with Mariah Carey

Miley Cyrus had a dream come true at the 2024 Grammys, as she won her first Grammy for her song “Flowers” and shared the stage with her idol Mariah Carey, who gave her the award.

The 31-year-old singer, who has been nominated for six Grammys in her career, finally took home the trophy for best pop solo performance for “Flowers”, a self-love anthem that topped the charts and became the most-streamed song on Spotify in 2023. She beat out Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift for the honor.

Cyrus, who has been a fan of Carey since she was a child, was visibly emotional and excited as she hugged and thanked Carey, whom she called “the ultimate M.C.”.

“This M.C. is gonna stand by this M.C. for this, because this is just too iconic,” Cyrus said. “Oh my God, I just got stuck in the rain and traffic and thought I was gonna miss this moment, and I could’ve missed the award, that’s fine. But not Mariah Carey. I just saw you at the Hollywood Bowl, it was everything. I got sat in my lucky number 3 seat.”

Cyrus then told a story about a boy who wanted a butterfly for his birthday and how he finally got one when he let go of his expectations, comparing it to her song “Flowers”. She said the song was her butterfly and thanked her fans, her team, and her family for their support.
