Swizz Beatz, the husband of Alicia Keys, has defended his wife after she received some backlash for her voice crack during her surprise appearance at the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday.
The pop star joined Usher on stage for a rendition of their 2004 hit song “My Boo”, which was part of the latter’s epic set that also featured Lil Jon, Ludacris, will.i.am, and H.E.R.
However, as Keys started singing, her voice seemed to crack on the first note, which was quickly noticed by some viewers, who made fun of the moment.
Swizz Beatz, who is a music producer and a rapper, took to Instagram on Monday to share his reaction to his wife’s performance, and to dismiss the negative comments.
He posted a video of Keys and Usher singing and dancing on stage, and wrote in the caption,
“Y’all talking about the wrong damn thing!!! Y’all don’t see that amazing dress covering the entire stadium. Tonight’s performance was nothing but amazing with 2 amazing giants! Congrats Usher and my love Alicia Keys that song is a classic. We don’t do negative vibes on this side we make history”.
Alicia Keys and Usher have been friends and collaborators for over two decades, and their song “My Boo” was a huge success, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and winning a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 2005.
