Bruce Springsteen Mourns his Mother Adele, Who Died at 98

Bruce Springsteen, 74, has revealed that his mother Adele Springsteen died on January 31st at the age of 98. The rock legend paid tribute to his mother by sharing a video of them dancing together and quoting lyrics from his song “The Wish”, which he wrote about her.

In an Instagram post, Springsteen said,

“I remember in the morning mom hearing your alarm clock ring. I’d lie in bed and listen to you getting ready for work, the sound of your makeup case on the sink. And the ladies at the office all lipstick, perfume and rustling skirts, how proud and happy you always looked walking home from work.

It ain’t no phone call on Sunday, flowers or a Mother’s Day card. It ain’t no house on the hill with a garden and a nice little yard. I’ve got my hot rod down on Bond Street I’m older but you’ll know me in a glance. We’ll find us a Little rock ‘n roll bar and we’ll go out and dance.”

He did not disclose the cause of her death, but he had previously said that she had been struggling with Alzheimer’s disease for a decade and that she could no longer speak or stand.

Adele Springsteen was born in New York City in 1925 and moved to Freehold, New Jersey, as a child. She worked as a legal secretary for most of her life and raised three children with her husband Douglas Springsteen, who died in 1998.

She was a major influence in Bruce Springsteen’s musical career and often attended his concerts and events. She was also a fan favorite and a source of inspiration for many of his songs, such as “The Wish”, “Independence Day”, and “American Land”.
