Netflix also released four photos from the new season. They show Gi-hun, the Recruiter (Gong Yoo) and a new character played by Park Gyu-young. The Recruiter, who lured Gi-hun into the Games in the first season, is seen wearing a mask and holding a briefcase. Park Gyu-young’s character, whose name and role are unknown, is seen wearing a red jumpsuit and holding a gun. She appears to be in a new location, possibly related to the Games.

Squid Game season 2 will continue the story of Gi-hun, who won 45.6 billion won ($38 million) from the Games, but was unable to enjoy his life after witnessing the deaths of his friends and hundreds of other players. He also learned that the mastermind behind the Games was his old friend Oh Il-nam (Oh Young-soo), who was also Player 001. Il-nam died before Gi-hun could confront him fully, but not before revealing that the Games were still ongoing and that there were other VIPs involved.

The season 2 will also explore the fate of some characters, like Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon), who was a police officer and the brother of Player 111. He infiltrated the Games as a guard and discovered the secrets behind them, but was shot by the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who turned out to be his brother.
