Sony’s Madame Web Tells the Origin Story of the Spider-Verse’s Psychic Heroine

Madame Web is the latest (fourth) addition to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU), which is a cinematic franchise that explores the many, interconnected stories of the spider-powered characters from Marvel Comics.

The film is directed by S. J. Clarkson and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who is best known for his work on the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises.

The suspenseful thriller, Madame Web, reveals the origin story of the clairvoyant spider-powered protagonist. It features Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a Manhattan-based paramedic who gains the power to glimpse the future in the “spider world” after a mishap.

She later meets three other women and teams up with them to stop Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim), a ruthless businessman who is obsessed with the secrets of the spider-verse and wants to use Webb’s visions to his advantage.

Madame Web has a large budget of about $80 million and it is set to be released today, February 14th, coinciding with Valentine’s Day.
