The Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Miami Dolphins in Germany is just a few days away, and Kansas City is prepared to celebrate with a German flair.
This includes a Kansas City, Kansas-based native German culinary blogger.
In order to teach Americans about German cuisine and traditions, Sophie Sadler launched her culinary blog, Drindl Kitchen.
After choosing to travel to Tonganoxie, Kansas, as part of a student exchange program, Sadler—who had been born and raised in Germany—decided to move to the United States.
According to Sadler, most of her recipes are inherited from her grandmother’s kitchen.
“It’s all authentic German recipes inspired by my grandma’s cooking in Germany, who had passed away shortly after I started my blog, and it’s really to honor her and to keep the German culture alive,” said Sadler.
Chiefs supporters can easily embrace their German heritage with Drindl Kitchen’s comprehensive recipe book, which includes everything from pretzels to mouthwatering meat and cheese spreads and rich dips.
“My mission I feel like is perfecting those recipes and trying to get people to cook authentic German food at home,” said Sadler. “There are lots of committed Germans that just love the football.”
Sadler sat down with KSHB 41 and instructed the crews on how to make bologna salad, sunflower seed rolls, German breakfast, Obatzda, and authentic pretzels.
She thinks all of these recipes will be popular this weekend at watch parties.
“I feel like it’s just such a great collaboration between those two countries to kind of come together in that way,” said Sadler.
Sadler intends to celebrate her German heritage by hosting the big game at home and eventually releasing a cookbook.
