Rebel Wilson has ended the mystery surrounding who the “massive asshole” Hollywood star is that she plans to call out in an entire chapter of her upcoming memoir “Rebel Rising.” The actress has confirmed it is her “Grimsby” co-star Sacha Baron Cohen that she alleges mistreated her during filming of the 2016 comedy.
In social media posts over the weekend, Wilson claimed Baron Cohen has hired crisis management teams and lawyers to try to block her from publishing details about their allegedly contentious working relationship on the movie set.
“I will not be bullied or silenced by high priced lawyers or PR crisis managers,” Wilson defiantly stated. “The ‘asshole’ that I am talking about in ONE CHAPTER of my book is: Sacha Baron Cohen.”
A spokesperson for Baron Cohen pushed back against Wilson’s assertions, telling The Hollywood Reporter that her “demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence” from the Grimsby production.
This public clash stems from when Rebel Wilson recently posted a video on Instagram teasing that her memoir, which will be out in April, will include a full chapter dedicated to an unnamed “massive asshole” she previously worked with who repeatedly mistreated her. She cited it as the moment she adopted a strict “no assholes policy” in her career.
While not providing specifics then, Wilson has previously hinted at difficulties with Baron Cohen while making Grimsby, in which she played the girlfriend of his working class character who becomes an elite spy. In 2014, she claimed on an Australian radio show that Baron Cohen persistently urged her to perform nude scenes and even suggested an inappropriate gag involving sticking her finger in his buttocks during filming.
“Every day he’s like, ‘Rebel, can you just go naked in this scene?’ And I’m like, ‘No!'” Wilson recounted at the time. “Sacha is so outrageous.”
With “Rebel Rising” promising to divulge her full unvarnished experience making the movie, it appears Sacha Baron Cohen is now bracing for some very candid and likely highly uncomplimentary revelations from his co-star’s perspective.
