Nevada voters went to the polls on February 6th for the state’s presidential primary, which included both Democrats and Republicans.
However, the results had little impact on the nomination process, as the Democratic race was already decided in favor of President Joe Biden, and the Republican race was ignored by the state party, which opted to hold a separate caucus for former President Donald Trump.
According to the Associated Press, Biden won the Nevada Democratic Primary with 89.3% of the vote, defeating author Marianne Williamson, who received 2.9%, and ‘None of These Candidates’, which received 5.8%.
On the Republican side, however, former UN ambassador Nikki Haley lost the Nevada Republican Primary to ‘None of These Candidates’, which received 63% of the vote, while Haley received 31%.
Haley, who served as governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017, and as UN ambassador from 2017 to 2019, was the only Republican candidate on the ballot, as Trump declined to participate in the primary.
She has tried to position herself as a moderate alternative to Trump, while not alienating his base. However, her strategy has failed to gain traction, as she has been consistently trailing Trump in national and state polls.
The Nevada Primary was the third contest in the 2024 presidential election cycle, following the Iowa Caucuses and the New Hampshire Primary, which were held in January.
