Killer Mike Detained by Police at Grammys after Sweeping Rap Categories

Killer Mike, the rapper who won three Grammys for his album “Michael”, was handcuffed and escorted out of the ceremony by police following a physical altercation.

The 48-year-old rapper, whose real name is Michael Render, had a triumphant night at the 2024 Grammys, where he won best rap performance, best rap song, and best rap album for his solo project “Michael”.

However, his celebration was cut short when he was detained by police at Crypto.com Arena shortly after the pre-televised portion of the ceremony, where he received his awards.

According to the LAPD, an individual was involved in a “physical altercation” at the venue and was taken into custody for further investigation. The police did not confirm the identity of the suspect or the victim, nor the nature of the incident.

A video posted on X by Chris Gardner showed Killer Mike being escorted in handcuffs by several officers, while his team and other attendees looked on in shock and confusion.

The rapper did not resist or speak to the media, but appeared calm and composed as he was led away.

At the 2024 Grammys, he dedicated his awards to his family, his fans, and his city of Atlanta. He also encouraged older rappers to keep making music and expressing themselves, regardless of their age or popularity. He said he was proud of his achievements and grateful for his opportunities.

“For all the people out there that think you get too old to rap, bullshit,” he said. “If you’re 78 rapping about how many gals you got in the nursing home, make sure we keep hip-hop alive”.
