Elisabeth Moss, the Emmy-winning actress who plays June Osborne on The Handmaid’s Tale, confirmed that she is expecting her first child on Jimmy Kimmel Live! She also shared some details about the final season of the Hulu series and received some pregnancy advice from the host.
Moss, 41, made the announcement on Tuesday night’s episode of the talk show, after Kimmel asked her if she was pregnant or just a very committed method actor. “A little bit of both,” Moss joked, referring to her role as a fertile woman in a dystopian society where most women are infertile. “I’ve been really lucky. It’s been going really well.”
She then asked Kimmel, who has four children with his wife Molly McNearney, for some tips on what to buy or bring to the delivery room.
Jimmy Kimmel said that he got some great advice from Bill Murray, who suggested bringing Christmas lights or beads to the hospital to create a better ambiance.
“Because the lighting is terrible in the room. It’s Walmart-style lighting for this blessed event that’s going to happen, and you don’t want that,” Kimmel explained.
Moss also talked about the upcoming sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, which she said will start filming this summer and will probably air in 2025. She joked that it felt like the fifth season was released “37 years ago” and that fans were getting impatient.
She did not reveal the identity of her partner or her due date during the interview. She was previously married to comedian and Saturday Night Live star Fred Armisen for a little over a year before their divorce was finalized in 2011.
Elizabeth Moss is best known for her roles as Peggy Olson on Mad Men, Zoey Bartlet on The West Wing, and June Osborne on The Handmaid’s Tale, for which she has won two Emmys and two Golden Globes. She will also star in The Veil, a thriller series by FX Productions for Hulu, and The Shining Girls, a drama series based on the novel by Lauren Beukes for Apple TV+.
