Iowa State, Ranked No. 10, Stays Undefeated at Home, Beats Texas Tech 82-74

The No. 10 Iowa State Cyclones secured an 82-74 victory against Texas Tech on Saturday at Hilton Coliseum. Keshon Gilbert led the Cyclones with 24 points, while four other players scored in double figures. The win keeps Iowa State unbeaten at home this season, with a perfect 15-0 record.

Gilbert had an impressive second half, scoring 18 of his 24 points and sinking three 3-pointers. He also contributed eight rebounds and five assists. Curtis Jones came off the bench to add 12 points, with seven of those coming in the second half. Tamin Lipsey, Milan Momcilovic, and Robert Jones each contributed 10 points to the victory.

On the other side, Joe Toussaint led the scoring for Texas Tech with 16 points.

Iowa State’s defense played a crucial role, forcing 16 turnovers while committing only six themselves. This marks the 11th time this season that the Cyclones have had fewer than 10 turnovers. Additionally, Iowa State capitalized on turnovers, scoring 28 points off Texas Tech’s mistakes while the Red Raiders failed to convert any turnovers into points.

The game started with Iowa State taking control, going on a 17-4 run midway through the first half to establish a 24-10 lead. Robert Jones and Gilbert led the charge during this run, with Jones contributing eight points. Despite Texas Tech’s efforts to cut into the lead, Iowa State maintained a comfortable advantage, leading 38-24 at halftime.

In the second half, Iowa State continued to dominate, extending their lead to 19 points early on. Although Texas Tech managed a brief comeback, narrowing the gap to 13 points, Iowa State responded with another scoring surge led by Gilbert’s third 3-pointer of the game.

Robert Jones played a significant role in Iowa State’s first-half lead, scoring eight points on perfect shooting and grabbing five rebounds. His contributions helped Iowa State establish a commanding lead at halftime.

Looking ahead, Iowa State will face Houston on Monday, February 19, with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m. CT on ESPN.
