Romeo Nance: The Suspected Killer of 8 People in Illinois Dies in Texas

Romeo Nance, 23, was the alleged perpetrator of a horrific crime spree that claimed the lives of eight people in the Chicago suburb.

Afterwards, he escaped from Illinois and drove more than 1,000 miles to Texas, where he is believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a confrontation with federal law enforcement officers.

The first victim of Nance was found on January 21st, 2024, at a home in Will County, Illinois, about 40 miles southwest of Chicago. The victim, who was later identified as a 28 year old Nigerian male, Toyosi Bakare, had a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Romeo Nance’s car, a red Toyota Camry, was seen at the scene, and he was also suspected of being involved in another shooting that same day in Joliet, which injured a 42 year old man who he spoke to briefly before attacking.

With that, the Will County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for Nance’s arrest and alerted the public that he was “armed and dangerous”.

The next day, January 22nd, 2024, deputies from the sheriff’s office went to Romeo Nance’s last known address on West Acres Road in Joliet, hoping to find him or his car.

They did not see any sign of him when they got there, but they noticed that the house across the street was related to the residents of Nance’s house.

They knocked on the door of the second house, but got no answer. The officers decided to enter the house when they saw blood on the door. Inside, they found two dead bodies.

They then went back to Nance’s house and found five more dead bodies. All of the victims had been shot.

As of the time of writing, Romeo Nance’s motive for the killings is still a mystery, and the investigation is ongoing.
