NBA Drug Policy: Tristan Thompson Suspended For Violation

Cleveland Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and received a 25-game suspension from the NBA.

The NBA announced this on Tuesday stating that his suspension comes without pay as he violated the terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program when he tested positive for ibutamoren and SARM LGD-4033.

Ibutamoren is a substance that stimulates the release of growth hormone, while SARM LGD-4033 is a selective androgen receptor modulator that mimics the effects of testosterone. The NBA banned these two substances since they can give a player an unfair advantage during a game.

Tristan Thompson, 32, is a veteran big man who has played 11 seasons in the NBA, mostly with the Cavaliers. He was part of the 2016 championship team that ended Cleveland’s 52-year title drought. He is also known for his relationship with reality TV star Khloé Kardashian, with whom he has two children.

His suspension starts as of today, 24th January, where he will be sitting out of the game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Milwaukee Bucks. He will be forfeiting about $2.5 million of his $9.7 million salary this season.
