A founding member of the Dixie Chicks, Laura Lynch, aged 65, lost her life in a car accident on Friday around 5:45 p.m. on Highway 62 in El Paso, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Reports from DPS officials indicate that Lynch was traveling eastbound when a westbound driver, attempting to pass another vehicle on an undivided two-way section of the road, collided head-on with her vehicle. The driver responsible for the collision sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital. The crash investigation is currently underway.
The band, now known as The Chicks, expressed their condolences on social media, describing Lynch as a “bright light” whose talents played a crucial role in their early success.
In their statement, The Chicks reminisced about Lynch’s instrumental role in their journey from street corners to stages across Texas and the Midwest. They extended their sympathies to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Co-founding the band in 1989 as the upright bassist and vocalist alongside Robin Lynn Macy, Martie Erwin, and Emily Erwin, Lynch contributed to three albums before departing from the group, paving the way for Natalie Maines to assume the role of lead singer.
