Sunday’s 3-0 demolition of Brentford at Anfield continued Jurgen Klopp’s team’s ascent to the top of the Premier League standings.
A dangerous Brentford side was easily defeated as Mohamed Salah scored goals in each half and Diogo Jota added the final goal. Following their Europa League loss to Toulouse, Klopp expected much more from his team, and he received it.
The Reds are now unbeaten in their previous five games and have won three of their last four Premier League games. Although Brentford’s run of three straight victories came to a sudden end, their injured team still produced opportunities, though some of the defending will not sit well with Thomas Frank.
Despite having 10 goals in the Premier League this season, Mohamed Salah has not received much attention. He is the driving force behind this Liverpool team, and he is maximizing the playmaking abilities of Nunez, Jota, and Szoboszlai as they destroy opponents.
The forward line that Liverpool dominated Brentford felt like they had turned back the clock because they were unrelenting in their pursuit of the ball, generating opportunities, and causing havoc with their runs and pressing. They will probably never reach the heights of Salah, Mane, and Firmino at their best.
Despite Brentford’s occasional counterattack, they had a strong defensive foundation thanks to Endo in midfield. Overall, the team seems more balanced and Liverpool’s defense appears to be getting better. Furthermore, Salah’s current form masks whatever growing pains Klopp may be experiencing from implementing a new midfield lineup. Say it quietly: Liverpool is back in the running for the title after a few years away.
