Kraft Issues Voluntary Recall For Faulty American Cheese Singles That Might Be ‘Unpleasant’ Or Make You Gag

Kraft Heinz is recalling around 83,000 cases of its individually packaged Kraft Singles American cheese because they could be a choking danger.

The business issued a statement explaining that due to a “temporary issue” with one of its wrapping machines, a “thin strip of the individual film may remain on the slice after the wrapper has been removed.” It could be “unpleasant and potentially cause a gagging or choking hazard” if that isn’t taken out.

Following “several” customer complaints about finding the plastic fragment on its cheese, including six complaints from consumers who choked or gagged on it, Kraft said it has issued a recall. The malfunctioning device has subsequently been rectified, and no injuries or health problems have been mentioned.

A 16-ounce “Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product” with a “Best When Used By” date between January 10, 2024, and January 27, 2024 is among the two styles of packaging that are affected by the problem. An “S” and a “72” appear in the production code on each package involved in this recall.

The 3-pound multipacks of “Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product” with UPC codes 0-2100060491-3 and “Best When Used By” dates of January 9, 2024, and January 16, 2024 are also impacted.

“Kraft Heinz is committed to upholding the highest safety and quality standards and apologizes for this inconvenience,” the company said.

If you have the recalled cheese, don’t eat it; instead, return it to the store where you bought it for a refund or exchange. To get their money refunded, they can also contact Kraft Heinz at 1-800-280-8252.

Kraft said earlier this year that it was redesigning the packaging for its individually wrapped cheese to make it simpler to unwrap.

The redesign aims to solve customers’ top grievance, which has been the “inability to easily open the clear wrapper,” according to Kraft. Each slice’s newly revised flap has more texture, which makes it simpler to identify, and is thicker and more durable so it can be opened without ripping.

With a slightly revised logo and a focus on the cheese’s lack of artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives, the packaging has also undergone a makeover.
