My Luxury Escape: A Glimpse into a $950-a-Night Overwater Bungalow in Belize

My Luxury Escape: A Glimpse into a $950-a-Night Overwater Bungalow in Belize

As I sat on the sandy shores of Belize, the past four days flooded my mind. My friend and I had been adventuring on a budget, staying in a modest hotel on Caye Caulker and exploring the island’s treasures. From scuba diving to happy hour hunts, we made the most of every moment in paradise. But now, a new adventure awaited us – luxury.

We were about to embark on a journey to Thatch Caye, an all-inclusive resort on a private island. While Belize boasts countless islands and resorts, Thatch Caye drew me in with its promise of overwater bungalows. I had dreamt of experiencing the luxury of these bungalows, usually found in faraway destinations like the Maldives or Bora Bora. Little did I know, Thatch Caye would make that dream a reality, just a short boat ride away.

As the sun began to set, a boat from Thatch Caye arrived to pick us up along with a few other guests. The anticipation grew as we sailed towards the island, a mere blur of green on the horizon. After a 25-minute journey, we arrived at Thatch Caye, greeted with refreshing watermelon juice and a shot of cherry-soaked rum.

After a brief island tour, we were handed the key to our overwater bungalow – the epitome of luxury accommodation. Our premier bungalow boasted a private deck overlooking the ocean, offering breathtaking views and the promise of a serene retreat. With a minimum stay of two nights and all-inclusive fees factored in, the price tag of $950 per night for two people seemed justified for such a unique experience.

As we were escorted to our bungalow, excitement bubbled within us. The wooden walkway leading to our room felt like a pathway to paradise. Stepping inside, we were greeted by two cozy beds and ample storage space, a stark contrast to our previous accommodations. The room was equipped with all the essentials, including AC, lounge chairs, and a private bathroom stocked with toiletries.

But the true highlight was the private deck, offering panoramic views of the ocean and a tranquil space to unwind. From the hammock to the lounge chairs, every detail was designed for relaxation. While our bungalow lacked direct access to the water, we reveled in the opportunity to observe Belize’s aquatic life from above.

Beyond the comfort of our bungalow, Thatch Caye offered a plethora of activities for guests to enjoy. From snorkeling to paddleboarding, there was no shortage of adventure on the island. The dive shop, spa, and beach provided endless opportunities for relaxation and exploration.

Meals at Thatch Caye were a communal affair, bringing guests together to enjoy delicious dishes prepared by the on-site chef. With a perfect balance of relaxation and adventure, our days were filled with scuba diving, snorkeling, and leisurely afternoons spent sipping tropical cocktails.

As we reluctantly bid farewell to Thatch Caye, I couldn’t help but reflect on the unforgettable experience we had enjoyed. My stay in the overwater bungalow had surpassed all expectations, leaving me with cherished memories and a newfound appreciation for luxury travel. And as we sailed away from the island, I knew that the dream of staying in an overwater bungalow had been fulfilled – a dream made possible by the stunning beauty of Belize.
