Robert De Niro Opens Up About Being an 80-Year-Old Dad to His Baby Girl

Robert De Niro, the Oscar-winning star of films such as The Godfather, Part II, Raging Bull, and Taxi Driver, has opened up about his experience of being an 80-year-old father to his baby girl, Gia, who was born in April 2023.

The actor, who has seven children in total, said that he was overjoyed and thankful to have another child, and that he was doing his best to be a good dad.

De Niro confirmed the news of his seventh child in an interview with ET Canada last year, said that he was “very happy” and “very lucky” to have Gia, who is his first child with his girlfriend, Tiffany Chen, a 65-year-old martial arts instructor. He said that he loved spending time with his daughter, and that he was amazed by her development and personality.

Most recently, to AARP: The Magazine, Robert De Niro said,

“I’m an 80-year-old dad and it’s great. Everything that I’m consumed with or worried about or this and that just goes away when I look at her. So that in itself, is, you know, wondrous.”

He said that he was trying to be the best father he could, and that he was learning from his mistakes and successes with his other children. He said that he was more patient and relaxed as an older parent, and that he was enjoying the moment.

“She has a very sweet way of looking at you and just taking you in, and my other daughter Helen had that too, she just looks at you and takes it in … I don’t know where it’s gonna go later when she gets older, but she’s thinking, she’s observing everything and watching, really interesting.”

When talking about his 9-month-old baby, Gia, Robert De Niro said he wants to,” be around for as long as I can to enjoy it, enjoy her.”
