Kingsley’s Strike Breaks Hearts’ 14-Year Record Against Celtics

Kingsley’s Strike Breaks Hearts’ 14-Year Record Against Celtics

Stephen Kingsley was on fire for Hearts, as they broke a 14-year league record against Scottish Champions Celtic at home.

This is also the first time Celtic has endured back-to-back league defeats in more than ten years.

First-half goals from Lawrence Shankland and Stephen Kingsley earned Hearts their first league win against Celtic since 2007.

The champions came into the match reeling from their loss against Kilmarnock which leaves them five points ahead of Rangers (two games left to play).

Hearts were in front in the 15th minute, when Jorge Grant’s deep corner found Shankland unmarked and the striker sent a header into the roof of the net for his 13th goal for Hearts this season.

15 minutes later, Kingsley made it two when he stood over a freekick Cameron Carter-Vickers conceded. He curled the ball over the wall and into the corner of the net.

Rodgers said: “It’s an apology to the support. I don’t think I’ve ever had to do that in all my time here. The performance was nowhere near the level of what is expected of a Celtic player and a Celtic team.

Hearts coach Naismith praised his boys: “It’s a big win because of the record. We needed a structure to work from, we needed to be disciplined, we needed to be composed on the ball and say, ‘no, we’re good enough to play against your press.
