On December 28, veteran actor and DMDK (Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam) chief, Vijayakanth, passed away at a private hospital in Chennai. The party has announced that his cremation, with full state honours, will take place today, December 29, at the Koyembedu headquarters in Chennai. Currently, his body is at Chennai’s Island Grounds for public homage, and the final procession is scheduled to begin at 1 pm.
Vijayakanth’s demise has left a significant void in Tamil cinema and politics, prompting Superstar Rajinikanth to travel from Tuticorin to Chennai to pay his respects to his friend and colleague.
As per the DMDK party statement, Vijayakanth’s body will be available for public homage at Island Grounds in Chennai from 6 am to 1 pm. The procession will commence at 1 pm, moving towards the DMDK party headquarters through the Poonamallee High Road. The final rites, with full state honours, are scheduled for 4.45 pm at the party office.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his sorrow over Vijayakanth’s demise, praising him as a good-hearted person and a friend. He announced that Vijayakanth would receive state honours during the cremation.
On the night of December 28, actor Thalapathy Vijay paid his respects at the DMDK party office, offering condolences to Vijayakanth’s wife and two sons. Rajinikanth, who returned from Tuticorin on December 29, visited Island Grounds to bid a final farewell to his dear friend, referring to Vijayakanth’s death as a substantial loss for Tamil Nadu.
Since December 28, numerous actors and politicians have been extending condolences to Vijayakanth’s grieving family.
