Blackstenius Scores Late Winner As Arsenal Defeat City In WSL

Stina Blackstenius of Arsenal came off the bench to score the game’s final goal as her team defeated Manchester City 2-1 in the Women’s Super League (WSL) on Sunday. Meanwhile, Bristol City triumphed 3-2 over West Ham United to earn their first win of the season.

After Chelsea’s 6-0 thumping of Aston Villa on Saturday, City, who had been playing well, dropped to second place in the standings. However, they were behind when Steph Catley gave Arsenal the lead in the fourteenth minute.

Then, Khiara Keating, the teenage goalkeeper for City, came under the limelight. She saved Kim Little’s penalty kick in the 20th minute but gave up a penalty for a foul on Cloe Lacasse, and it wasn’t the last time she was the center of attention.

When Chloe Kelly scored the equalizer for City in the 72nd minute, she may have thought she had made the most of her miss, but Keating misjudged a late long ball that bounced over her and allowed Blackstenius to score the winner.

Bristol City finally experienced victory in the WSL after four straight losses when they overcame a goal deficit to defeat West Ham 3-2 on the road.

Liverpool’s fantastic start to the season continued with a 2-1 victory over Leicester City, while Everton’s Aurora Galli scored from the spot in the 85th minute to give her team a 1-1 draw away to Tottenham Hotspur.

The drama unfolded during the late kickoff as Brighton & Hove Albion’s Guro Bergsvand scored her first goal to give them a late lead over Manchester United. However, Rachel Williams scored deep into stoppage time in the second half to steal a 2-2 draw for the Red Devils.

Aston Villa is at the bottom of the 12-team league with no points after five games. Chelsea leads the table with 13 points after five games, three ahead of Manchester City, Spurs, Liverpool, and Arsenal.
