Evan Ellingson, a former child star, passed away at the age of 35.
Records from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department state that Ellingson was discovered on Sunday in his Fontana, California, bedroom. An autopsy is still pending to determine the cause of death.
Ellingson’s death is being investigated by the Fontana Police Department. A department official, Christian Surgent, told USA TODAY in a statement on Tuesday that “there were no obvious signs of foul play.”
Ellingson played the teenage son of Cameron Diaz and the older brother of Abigail Breslin, who suffers from acute promyelocytic leukemia, in the 2009 film “My Sister’s Keeper.” Emily Deschanel and Alec Baldwin also feature in the movie.
On Monday, Breslin honored Ellingson on Instagram and asked followers not to conjecture about his passing. “Evan Ellingson was a very talented, funny, and kind person. In the movie “My Sister’s Keeper,” which I directed, he portrayed my older brother. Part of her message read, “Evan was a truly thoughtful person who cared so much about turning in the best performance, which he accomplished.” “Some of his scenes in MSK still give me chills.”
“He was also silly, funny, a prankster, a lover of Red Bull (I hated the smell of Red Bull ?) and he was energetic and the life of the party. I didn’t keep in touch a lot with him after the film, but he always stayed in my mind as a wonderful and sweet soul, one I am grateful to have crossed paths with,” Breslin added.
“Your time on this earth may have been, devastatingly, short. Your humor, exuberance, kindness and bright light will linger forever. Sending you peace on your journey to the great beyond and who knows … maybe one day, I’ll meet you in Montana.”
“Side note: the details of Evan’s passing have not yet been released. I ask you to kindly not speculate on the details out of respect for his family including his daughter,” Breslin concluded.
Ellingson also had appearances in the Kiefer Sutherland-led series “24,” the Clint Eastwood-directed war film “Letters from Iwo Jima,” “CSI: Miami,” “Mad TV,” and “Bones.” She also starred in the brief ABC sitcom “Complete Savages” from 2004 to 2005.
