Rapper Tory Lanez from Canada has been moved to a state prison, where he will carry out the remainder of his 10-year term for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, a prominent hip-hop figure.
According to prison records, the 31-year-old, whose true name is Daystar Peterson, was taken into custody on Tuesday at North Kern State Prison in Delano, California.
Lanez also had a fresh mugshot taken, which he posed for while maintaining a blank expression.
After being convicted guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion, real name Megan Pete, in the foot as the two were leaving a party in Los Angeles in 2020, the rapper was given a 10-year prison sentence in August.
On July 12, 2020, Lanez shot the three-time Grammy winner at a gathering at Kylie Jenner’s house.
The rapper was found guilty by a jury of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in a moving vehicle, and careless discharge of a firearm after entering a not-guilty plea to three felony charges in December.
Days prior to his transfer, Lanez had unsuccessfully appealed his conviction and sought release.
“The denial of the appeal bond is undoubtedly disappointing, but it does not deter us from our mission,” Unite the People, a nonprofit organization representing Lanez in his appeal, said in a statement.
Before receiving his sentence, Lanez had apologized for his actions and said he took full responsibility for the shooting, but in a later Instagram post, he said he was only taking “responsibility for all verbal and intimate moments that I shared with the parties involved … That’s it.”
“In no way shape or form was I apologizing for the charges I’m being wrongfully convicted of,” he wrote. “I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do.”
The rapper declared he would battle “until I come out on top.”
