After a video of 50mCent hurling a microphone into the audience at his Los Angeles concert went viral, the rapper has denied intentionally hurting a fan who was hit.
Video acquired by USA TODAY appears to show the rapper throwing a microphone off the stage while performing on stage at Cryto.com Arena on Wednesday. According to Rolling Stone and NBC News, the microphone was allegedly a “non-functioning equipment.”
A second microphone was soon given to 50 Cent, although Rolling Stone noted that it “was evidently also not working.” In the footage, he appears to use more power this time to throw the second mike off to the same region of the stage. At the front of the stage, fireworks were fired into the air as the scene was being performed.
In a statement provided to USA TODAY on Friday, the rapper’s attorney, Scott Leemon, refuted charges that his client intended to strike a fan.
Leemon also stated that he discussed the event with the police.
“Let’s be very clear, as I told LAPD this afternoon, my client Curtis would never intentionally strike anyone with a microphone,” Leemon said. “Anyone saying something different doesn’t have all the facts and is misinformed.”
The video does not show the person in the crowd who was allegedly struck by the microphone.
