South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is anticipated to support Donald Trump for president tonight at his event in her home state according to a person familiar with the planning.

Noem is well-liked in the Trump universe, and if he wins the nomination for president in 2024, there has been some talk that she would run as his running mate.

When questioned about the likelihood of her support on a radio show on Thursday, Trump praised the 51-year-old governor and former House member.

“I don’t know exactly. But … I like her a lot. I think she’s great. Kristi’s done a great job. She’s been — she really, you know, she’s really kept her state open,” Trump told Howie Carr.

Both Noem’s representative and a spokesman for the Trump campaign declined to comment on the likelihood of an endorsement tonight.

CNN was the first to report on Noem’s anticipated support.

Noem has been a longtime supporter of Trump and was mentioned as a possible contender before Trump declared his bid for the presidency in 2024.

Her second term as governor of South Dakota runs through 2026, and she has a term limit.
