Justin Fields, the quarterback for the Chicago Bears, described his performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 27-17 loss as “robotic” and that he did not feel like he was “playing like myself.”
The 24-year-old quarterback believes that his tendency to overthink during games is a result of the way he has been tutored.
“You know, could be coaching, I think,” Fields said. “At the end of the day, they are doing their job when they are giving me what to look at, but at the end of the day, I can’t be thinking about that when the game comes. I prepare myself throughout the week, and then when the game comes, it’s time to play free at that point. Thinking less and playing more.”
Fields completed 16 of 29 passes for 211 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and one yard of scoring offense. He also ran four times for 3 yards. Fields has the fewest rushing yards ever since his first season, which was those.
Chicago’s losing run now stands at 12 games, dating back to October 2022, after the away defeat.
Fields feels that discussing his issues with the coaches is an essential step in the team’s improvement from its early-season troubles.
Later on Wednesday, Fields spoke with reporters at his locker and said that his words had been “taken out of context.”
Braxton Jones, the starting left tackle, suffered a neck injury and was placed on injured reserve, which hurt Fields’ protection.
When asked if Jones may miss any games this year, Eberflus responded, “We’ll see where it is. Timetables are not available at this time. That is the current location.
