After nine years in the role, Chuck Todd of NBC will anchor the renowned Sunday political news program “Meet the Press” for the last time on Sunday.

Todd made the decision to leave his position as the news program’s host, which he has held since 2014, public in July. Kristen Welker, the network’s chief white house correspondent and co-anchor, who has worked there since 2014, will take his position.

“While today is not my final show, this will be my final summer here at Meet the Press,” Todd said on the air in July. “I am really proud of what this team and I have built over the last decade.”

“Just as important, I’m also ready to take a step back because I know the person whom I’m passing the baton to is somebody who’s been ready for this for a while,” Todd said of Welker at the time. “This is exactly how I always hoped this would end, that I’d be passing the baton to her.”

The longest-running political chat program in television history, “Meet the Press,” is one of the most important venues for lawmakers and decision-makers to address current topics.
