On this day, sisters wrap their brothers’ wrists in vibrant threads (rakhis) in an effort to protect and cherish them. In exchange, brothers provide presents and make commitments to look after their sisters. It’s a lovely custom that emphasizes the value of love and family bonds.
On this important occasion, Pinkvilla exclusively spoke with well-known and accomplished actor Rithvik Dhanjani and inquired about his plans for Raksha Bandhan. Rithvik also discussed how his relationship with his younger sister has changed while speaking with us.
Excerpts from the interview:
How do you plan to celebrate Raksha Bandhan this year?
This year, Raksha Bandhan will be spent at home with family. I believe it will be largely at home because my sister is here as well as my parents. Considering that my parents very never eat at a luxury restaurant, I believe I will take them there together with my sister. However, I realize that this is a special occasion and decide to take them to a posh restaurant in the city. I believe that is what I have in mind with my sister because it is highly uncharacteristic of my parents to go out and have fun at a fine restaurant.
How has your bond with your sister evolved over these years?
My sister is a confidante, a friend at three or four in the morning, and someone I can talk to about anything. She is fully aware of all of my darkest and most intimate secrets. Now that she is old enough for me to establish this bond with her, she and I are quite close. She used to be just my little sister, but now that she’s older, I believe we are closer friends.
She can kind of talk to me and tell me anything under the sun, I believe. As I get older and more aware of the link, I believe it has deepened and strengthened. I also believe that I am now experiencing the idea of unconditional love with my sibling. Therefore, I can pretty much say that my sister and I share an unbreakable link of affection that is not shared with a dog (laughs). So, that’s essentially how the relationship is.
