According to officials, Suzanne Morphew’s bones were discovered last week. She was a Colorado resident who vanished in 2020, and her husband had been accused of killing her.
In May 2020, Morphew of Chaffee County vanished.
Barry Morphew, her husband, had been charged with a crime, but the case was dropped in April 2022 at the request of the prosecution because they believed the hunt for her remains was nearing completion.
According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Suzanne Morphew’s remains were discovered during a search on Friday, and the El Paso County coroner positively identified them on Wednesday.
Authorities have not said exactly where the remains were discovered, only that they were discovered during a separate search near Moffat in Saguache County.
Barry Morphew has consistently denied having any involvement in his wife’s disappearance or what was initially believed to be her demise.
He was taken into custody in May 2021 and accused of first-degree murder as well as other offenses.
Prosecutors requested that the case be dropped without prejudice in April 2022 so that it may be re-filed.
On May 10, 2020, Morphew, a 49-year-old mother of two, was reported missing from her Chaffee County home, according to authorities.
Since the remains were discovered, no arrests have been made in connection with the case, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation stated in a statement on Wednesday.
“Although locating Suzanne’s remains is a critical component of this investigation, and for her family, we are left with many more questions than answers,” Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze said in the statement.
Iris Eytan, Barry Morphew’s attorney, stated that her client and the family’s daughters are distraught about the discovery of Suzanne Morphew’s remains.
“They had faith that their wife and mom would walk back into their lives again. The news is heartbreaking,” Eytan said in an email.
Eytan argued that Barry Morphew is innocent and urged the authorities to file charges against the offender or offenders.
Barry Morphew had been charged, but the district attorney’s office did not immediately respond to a voicemail requesting comment on Wednesday night.
In May, Morphew sued the government for $15 million, claiming that the prosecution and other parties had “tunnel vision” when they exclusively suspected him.
