Assemble Your Squad: NetEase’s ‘Marvel Rivals’ Brings Iconic Heroes and Villains to PC

Brace yourselves, Marvel fans, as a new free-to-play PC game is about to unleash a clash of epic proportions across the multiverse. Developed by NetEase Games, “Marvel Rivals” is set to launch in May, inviting players to assemble their ultimate squad from a roster of 18 iconic Marvel characters, with more heroes and villains to join the fray in future updates.

At launch, gamers will have the opportunity to step into the roles of beloved characters such as Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Scarlet Witch, as well as formidable foes like Loki, Magneto, and The Punisher. This initial lineup promises a diverse array of powers and abilities, setting the stage for dynamic and unpredictable battles.

According to NetEase Games, “Marvel Rivals” is a team-based shooter that will allow players to

“assemble an ever-evolving all-star squad of superheroes and supervillains while battling with unique superpowers across a dynamic lineup of destructible maps from across the Marvel Multiverse.”

The game’s storyline, crafted by the NetEase writing team, follows a conflict between the tyrannical Doctor Doom and his future self from the year 2099. Their merciless clash has caused countless universes to collide, creating new worlds and crises that demand the intervention of heroes and villains from across the multiverse.

“In ‘Marvel Rivals,’ superheroes and supervillains from across the multiverse must fight together and against one another as disparate groups seek to defeat both Dooms before one achieves domination of these realities,” the developers tease.

One of the game’s standout features is the ability for players to combine their characters’ abilities, creating powerful team-up attacks and defenses. Imagine Rocket Raccoon riding on Groot’s shoulders as they charge into battle, or Doctor Strange conjuring a portal for The Punisher’s turret to rain fire on unsuspecting foes.

“Superhero teams are a little like family and often team up to defeat evil together,” said Thaddeus Sasser, director at NetEase Games. “In ‘Marvel Rivals,’ you can likewise use team-up abilities with your friends and teammates to super-charge attacks or defenses and turn the tide of the battle together.”

Marvel and NetEase have also promised robust post-launch support, with seasonal updates introducing new characters, maps, and content to keep the experience fresh and exciting. Want to know what to expect, see the trailer below.
