Lisa Frankenstein: A Horror Comedy to Look Out For this February

Based on Frankenstein, the classic novel by Mary Shelley, Lisa Frankenstein is a horror comedy film that follows Lisa, a lonely and rebellious goth teen who brings a 19th-century corpse back to life and tries to turn him into her perfect boyfriend.

Along the way, she faces the challenges of high school, family, and society, as well as the dangers of playing God. The film stars Kathryn Newton as Lisa, Cole Sprouse as the reanimated corpse, and Liza Soberano as Lisa’s stepsister Taffy.

The film is the directorial debut of Zelda Williams, the daughter of the late comedian and actor Robin Williams. The actress/producer said she wanted to make a film that was fun, quirky, and heartfelt, and that paid homage to the horror and comedy films of the 1980s. Such films as Heathers, Weird Science, The Breakfast Club, and, of course, Frankenstein.

She also said she was drawn to the script by Diablo Cody, the Oscar-winning writer of Juno and Jennifer’s Body, because it had a strong female protagonist, a clever twist on a classic story, and a lot of humor and heart.

After its premiere, the coming-of-age movie received positive reviews from critics who praised the performances, the script, the direction, and the tone of the film. It has been described as “a horror comedy with a heart”, “a fresh and fun take on a classic tale”, and “a cult classic in the making”.

Lisa Frankenstein is scheduled for release on February 9th in the United States by Universal Pictures and Focus Features.
