Justin Timberlake Drops ‘Selfish’, His 1st Solo Single in 5 Years

Justin Timberlake is making a comeback with the release of his 1st solo single in nearly 5 years.

The song released on Thursday is titled ‘Selfish‘ and will be the lead single from his upcoming sixth studio album, ‘Everything I Thought It Was,’ which will be released on the 15th of March via RCA.

The album will contain 18 songs, selected from over 100 songs that Timberlake worked on during the recording process. ‘Selfish’ was co-written/produced by Timberlake, Louis Bell, and Cirkut. Theron Thomas and Amy Allen were also instrumental in the song’s development.

Justin Timberlake also announced on ‘The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon’ on Thursday, that he will be embarking on a global tour starting from April 29th in Vancouver, Canada.

He will also hold a special free concert at New York’s Irving Plaza on Jan. 31, where he will preview his new album.

Timberlake’s new music comes after he faced a lot of backlash for his role in the ‘Framing Britney Spears’ documentary, which talked about his treatment of his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears after their breakup. He also faced criticism for his involvement in the ‘Free Britney’ movement, which supports Spears’ fight to end her conservatorship.

He has since issued a public apology to Spears and Janet Jackson, whom he also offended during the infamous 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, saying that he “failed” them and that he “benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism”.

Timberlake’s new music is a welcome return for the pop star, who has sold over 32 million albums and 56 million singles worldwide, and has won 10 Grammy Awards and four Emmy Awards. He is also a successful actor, having starred in films such as ‘The Social Network’, ‘Friends With Benefits’, and lended his voice in ‘Trolls’.
