Tom Holland and Tom Hollander are two British actors who share more than just a similar name. They also share a history of being confused with each other, especially by their former agency, which once sent Hollander a seven-figure bonus check that belonged to Holland for his role in The Avengers.
According to Hollander, who revealed the story on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the mistake occurred when he received an email from the accounts department of his agency, containing a payment advice slip for his first box office bonus for The Avengers.
“I sat smugly in the audience just having done a BBC show for $30,000….The interval came and I checked my email… I got an email saying, ‘Payment advice slip: Your first box office bonus for ‘The Avengers.'”
The bonus was a percentage of the film’s gross revenue. A staggering seven-figure sum that he had never seen in his life.
Hollander said he was shocked and amused by the email, as he had nothing to do with The Avengers or any other Marvel film.
He later realized that the bonus was meant for Holland, who had played Spider-Man in six Marvel films.
“It was a seven-figure sum,” he said. “He was 20 or something. So the feeling of smugness I had disappeared. But that’s showbiz.”
Tom Hollander currently stars in the popular HBO series, White Lotus, which has received multiple awards and nominations.
