San Bernardino experienced a 4.2 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It occurred at 7:43 p.m. and was centered about two miles southwest of the city.
The quake was felt as far as Los Angeles, Orange County, and Riverside County, but did not cause any serious harm or disruption.
It had a depth of about 10 miles, which is considered shallow by seismological standards, and was also classified as a strike-slip earthquake, which means that the fault moved horizontally, rather than vertically.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department said that it did not receive any reports of structural damage or fires, and that it only received a few calls from residents who felt the shaking.
The quake also did not trigger any aftershocks or tsunamis, as it was too small and too far inland to generate such effects.
