The Philadelphia Phillies’ greatest offseason acquisition, Trea Turner, is having a terrible year. Despite all of his difficulties, Turner received a standing ovation before to his first at-bat on Friday night against the Kansas City Royals as Philadelphia fans defied expectations.

Turner committed to playing for the Phillies by signing an 11-year, $300 million contract in the previous offseason. Turner has batted well through 108 contests.10 home runs and 35 RBIs for 236. In a normal situation, the home crowd would boo loudly, but not on Friday.

When Turner approached the plate in the bottom of the second inning, Citizens Bank Park went into a standing ovation for him. Some of his Phillies colleagues even offered encouragement from the dugout.

Turner said that it was a really special moment for him after the game, which the Phillies lost 7-5 and in which he went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

“I thought it was pretty f–ing cool,” Turner said, via the Phillies’ website. “The fans have my back. They’re showing up for me. It’s pretty cool to see. I wish we could have come out with the win right there, but I thought that was awesome.”

Turner also acknowledged that his mother sobbed while she watched that opening at-bat. The Phillies supporters, according to him, “made her pretty happy.”

Turner has never truly experienced a career slump like this. Turner is currently in his seventh season and has a.294 lifetime average and.347 on-base percentage. Turner had the most hits in the MLB in 2020 and 2021, with 78 and 195, respectively.

The two-time All-Star still has time to make amends and perform admirably for the Philadelphia fans. The Cincinnati Reds, Miami Marlins, and Arizona Diamondbacks are close behind the Phillies as they fight for an NL Wild Card place with 52 games left.
