The political landscape is abuzz as former President Donald Trump secures the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential race.
This development has prompted a swift response from Reproductive Freedom for All, with President and CEO Mini Timmaraju labeling Trump as “the biggest threat to reproductive freedom and our democracy that our country has faced in generations.”
The organization, which has previously endorsed the Biden-Harris ticket, warns of the dire consequences a second Trump term could have on reproductive rights. They wrote:
“Donald Trump is the biggest threat to reproductive freedom and our democracy that our country has faced in generations. In his first term, he stacked the courts with extremist judges and overturned Roe. The very real dangers of a second term for Trump are clear. We must reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris to restore our rights and safeguard our democracy.”
The organization fears that Trump’s re-election could further erode reproductive freedoms, citing a lengthy conservative agenda poised to restrict abortion access and penalize healthcare providers.
Reproductive Freedom for All emphasizes the progress made under the current administration. They argue that re-electing Biden and Harris is crucial to restoring and safeguarding reproductive rights.
“The only way to restore our rights and freedoms is by reelecting President Biden and Vice President Harris. This administration has done more to defend reproductive freedom and expand abortion access than any other in history—from establishing the Reproductive Rights Task Force to championing the restoration of the federal right to abortion to putting Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson on the Supreme Court, and so much more.”
Trump’s nomination has reignited the debate over abortion rights, with anti-abortion groups ready to support his campaign. The organization points to the former president’s track record, including the reinstatement of the domestic gag rule and the expansion of the global gag rule, as evidence of his commitment to restricting abortion access.
Reproductive Freedom for All says that it is “working to ensure reproductive freedom champions are elected from statehouses to the White House” and that they wish to “protect and expand abortion rights and access through ballot measures”.
