Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has received a two-game suspension for breaking the NFL's rules

Garoppolo reportedly used a medication that required permission from the league but didn’t have the necessary approval. As a result, he won’t contest the suspension and will sit out the first two games of the 2024 season.

Sources say the Raiders plan to release Garoppolo before mid-March to avoid paying him a hefty roster bonus. His $11.25 million base salary for 2024 could also be at risk due to the suspension.

Initially signed under former coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler, Garoppolo’s future with the team is uncertain under new leadership. The Raiders may seek a new quarterback in the upcoming draft, possibly even trading up from their current No. 13 pick.

Once Garoppolo is released, the Raiders will have Aidan O’Connell and veteran Brian Hoyer as their quarterbacks. Garoppolo, 32, is now looking for his third team in three years, having previously played for the San Francisco 49ers before joining the Raiders in 2023.

While he can participate in off-season activities and training camp with a new team, he’ll be sidelined for the first two regular-season games due to the suspension.
