Joni Mitchell Makes Grammys Debut with Stunning Performance of ‘Both Sides Now’

Joni Mitchell, the legendary singer-songwriter, performed ‘Both Sides Now’ at the 2024 Grammys, her first time ever at the awards show. She was joined by Brandi Carlile, Jacob Collier, and other musicians for a beautiful rendition of her classic song.

The 80-year-old icon, who has won 12 Grammys in her career, took the stage at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles after a heartfelt introduction by her friend and collaborator Carlile, who called her “the matriarch of imagination, a true renaissance woman, my hero and yours.”

Mitchell, who wore a black dress and held a cane, sang ‘Both Sides Now‘ with her distinctive voice and style, accompanied by Carlile, Collier, Blake Mills, Lucius, and Sista Strings.

The song, which was released in 1969 on her album ‘Clouds’, won Mitchell her first Grammy for best folk performance and has been covered by many artists over the years.

Joni Mitchell also received a Grammy for best folk album for her live album ‘Joni Mitchell at Newport’, which captured her first full set in more than two decades at the Newport Folk Festival in 2022. The album features songs from her early career as well as some of her later works, and was praised for its intimacy and authenticity.

Mitchell’s appearance at the 2024 Grammys was the latest in her career resurgence, which began in 2019 when she made her first public appearance after recovering from a brain aneurysm in 2015. Since then, she has released several archival albums, performed at various events, and announced a concert at the Hollywood Bowl in October 2024.
