Jacob Toppin misses out on Slam Dunk contest victory

The Slam Dunk contest happened in Indianapolis, but it wasn’t as exciting as some fans hoped. Jacob Toppin, a rookie from the Knicks, did some cool dunks, including one where he spun around and dunked between his legs. But the judges liked Jaylen Brown’s dunks better.

Mac McClung won the trophy by jumping over Shaquille O’Neal for the second year in a row. Toppin wanted to beat his brother Obi, who won last year. For his first dunk, Jacob jumped over Obi, who is 6-foot-9 tall, and got a score of 47.8 from the judges.

His next dunk was even better. He started from the 3-point line, spun around, put the ball between his legs, and dunked with both hands. But he needed two tries to get it right, so the judges gave him a lower score of 47.2.

Jaylen Brown, a star player from the Celtics, also did some impressive dunks. For his second dunk, he honored Dee Brown, who did a famous dunk in 1991 by covering his eyes and jumping over someone. Jaylen did a similar dunk, jumping over Twitch star Kai Cenat with his eyes covered. He got a score of 47.6 and advanced to the final.

In the final, Brown jumped over Donovan Mitchell and did a lefty windmill dunk. But McClung did an even crazier dunk by jumping over Shaq and doing a reverse dunk. He got a perfect score and won the contest.

Some NBA players joked about the scores on social media.
