Two People Found Dead in UCCS Dorm Shooting

A dorm on the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs (UCCS) campus was the scene of a fatal shooting on Friday, where police found two people dead from gunshots shortly after 6 a.m.

The campus was placed on lockdown and closed for the day, as police and emergency personnel secured the scene and conducted an investigation.

The Colorado Springs Police Department said in one of their tweets, while giving updates on the shooting, that they are:

“In the very early stages of piecing together what happened. We are in the process of notifying family members of the deceased individuals. We don’t believe there is an ongoing threat to the community and we are investigating this as an isolated incident.”

Students living in Alpine Village were told to shelter in place, while other students and faculty were free to leave the campus.

The lockdown was later lifted around 9:30 a.m., but the campus remained closed for the rest of the day. The identities of the people who died in the shooting have still not been released.

UCCS is a public university that enrolls more than 11,000 students and offers more than 50 degree programs. It is part of the University of Colorado system, which also includes campuses in Boulder, Denver, and Anschutz Medical Campus.
