Marvel Studios Mourns the Death of Wonder Man Crew Member After On-Set Accident

The Marvel Studios family is grieving the death of a crew member who was working on the series Wonder Man. The deceased, Juan Carlos Osorio, aged 41, fell from the rafters at CBS Radford Studios in Los Angeles on Tuesday morning, where the series was set to begin filming in March.

A Marvel spokesperson who confirmed the new said in a statement that,

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident.”

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be the investigating body, according to Deadline, which first reported the news. The production was halted and the cast and crew were sent home after the incident.

Wonder Man is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, who is also known as Simon Williams, a former industrialist who becomes a superhero with super strength and energy projection.

It stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the titular hero, and Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery, the actor who impersonated the Mandarin in Iron Man 3. The series is created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, and is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2025.

The crew member’s death is the latest in a series of accidents and fatalities that have occurred on film and television sets in recent years.

In October 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot by actor Alec Baldwin on the set of the movie Rust, when a gun that was supposed to be unloaded fired a live round. In February 2014, camera assistant Sarah Jones was killed in a train accident on the set of the movie Midnight Rider, when the crew was filming on a railroad bridge without permission.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), the labor union that represents crew members, expressed its shock and sadness over the death of the Wonder Man crew member, and said it would assist the investigation.
