Oklahoma residents were jolted by a 5.1 magnitude earthquake on Friday night at around 11:24 pm. It was felt across much of the state, as well as parts of Kansas and Texas.
The earthquake was also described as shallow, at just 1.8 miles deep, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). It was centered 5 miles northwest of Prague, about 50 miles east of Oklahoma City.
Several reports state that the earthquake caused minor damage to some buildings and roads, but no major injuries or fatalities were reported. Some residents reported power outages, gas leaks, and cracked walls and windows. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation said it inspected bridges and highways in the affected area and found no significant damage.
The USGS said it was also analyzing the data from the quake and its aftershocks to determine the cause and the potential for future earthquakes in the area. The agency advised residents to be watchful and to follow the safety tips on its website.
