The police have arrested a Pennsylvania man who is accused of beheading his father and then showing his severed head on a YouTube video where he expressed right-wing conspiracy theories.
Justin Mohn, 32, allegedly murdered his father Michael Mohn, and mutilated his body. He faces charges of first-degree murder, corpse abuse, and having a criminal weapon. He appeared in court at 4 a.m. on Wednesday and was refused bail, according to Capt. Pete Feeney of the Middletown Township Police Dept., who spoke to NBC News.
Justin uploaded a 14-minute video on YouTube around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, where he holds up the severed head of his father and names him. In the video, called “Mohn’s Militia – Call to Arms for American Patriots,” he claims his father was a federal employee for more than 20 years.
He then tells his “supporters” to attack federal workers, saying they deserve to be killed in public for being traitors to their country.
Denice Mohn, the mother of the suspect, alerted the police when she found her husband, Michael, beheaded in the lower floor bathroom of their Levittown house, a suburb about 25 miles away from central Philadelphia around 7 p.m.
According to a probable cause affidavit that CNN got, the police saw the father’s head in plastic, in a big pot, when they got there. They also found a machete and a big kitchen knife in the tub. They speculated that Justin and his father had been alone in the house for five hours.
Court documents say that Justin Mohn fled in his father’s car to Fort Indiantown Gap. The Middletown Township police located Justin’s phone and informed the Fort Indiantown Gap police that he was close by. They arrested him without much trouble later.
Denice, who had been married to Michael for 34 years, said she was devastated by the loss of her husband and the actions of her son. She said she had tried to get help for Justin Mohn, who had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, but he refused to take medication or go to therapy. She said she hoped that her son would get the treatment he needed and that justice would be served.
